China - the future of golf
On the island of Hainan in China, they can’t seem to build golf courses quickly enough to meet the demand. Mission Hills Haikou’s ten courses are filled up every day with wealthy Chinese golfers, and it can be hard to land a tee time.
Golf in the northwest
Ireland is truly the land of golf. With over 400 courses to choose from, picking a destination can be almost overwhelming. Dublin with many fine courses like Portmarnock, The Island, Royal Dublin. The southwest with the likes of Old head, Ballybunion, Doonbeg. Northern Ireland with Royal County Down, Portrush, Portstewart. The list goes on.

Pärnu Bay Golf Links is an ambitious project, one that has been in the works for almost ten years. This summer it was finally ready for play. Golf Travel Journal got a rare treat; we were the very first to play the course.
”Our first hole has been named the most beautiful starting hole in all of Norway”, brags our Norwegian golf partner Johnny Bolle. But Norsemen don’t brag, he points out. ”Although we may have skewed the vote a tiny bit when we rallied all our members to vote”.
The ‘legend’ of The Lost City is that before the dawn of western civilization a tribe from northern Africa brought their mighty architecture to a volcanic crater called the Valley of the Sun. Then an earthquake ruined the city and forced the people to flee. Today – the fantasy has it – it has been restored to its former glory as The Lost City at Sun City, South Africa.
The best course in Belek?
Belek has seen a fantastic explosion of golf projects over the last decades. A large number of great courses have been developed, but they are all traditional parkland courses, all except one, Lykia Links. Being different doesn’t always lead to greatness, but in the case of Lykia Links it has – it is a truly great course.
