Sandy Hollow Golf Course was the best public course in Rockford before Aldeen was opened.

As second best, it is still a very, very nice course, beautifully maintained with many interesting design features. It shows it’s age when it comes to the layout with many straighforward holes, but that doesn’t deter from the enjoyment of playing the course.  At 6228 yds from the club tees it is not too long, so anyone can enjoy this course. With lots of mature trees lining the fairways, straight is more important than long. Friendly staff are found everywhere, and at $23, it is quite a bargain.

The clubhouse is typical muni style, simple but functional. Not to be missed is Linda Tracy’s Pro Shop and Concessions. Linda has been at the course for almost 40 years, and she aims to be there 50! Ask her if she has any good stories to tell. Be prepared though, you might be there for a while. Also check out her golf ball collection. She designs a new ball every year for the anniversary.
